The Luckyrice Festival, Los Angeles
I was over the moon when The Luckyrice Festival gave us VIP tickets to their Los Angeles event! Emily Tangerine, George Wang and Nate Fierro joined me in the madness. We got to the event right at 7PM and there was already a line forming. Luckily we were amongst the first to get in. Once it started it was all madness! There were SO many food booths and so many tastes and flavors to take in. It was really hard to take photos because it was all so fast-paced but I managed to get a few good ones in. THE FOOD WAS AMAZING. To be honest, I got full halfway through the booths, many of the portion sizes were incredibly generous. I forced myself to eat my way through it all though!
For drinkers, there was so much cool alcohol available. There were bars everywhere with sponsored alcohol and different mixed drinks at every station. One bar had cool tonics that you could mix in. Another had thai iced tea boba spiked with gin.
Thank you so much to Danielle Chang for creating this amazing event and allowing us to attend!
Pretty girls with alcohol greeted us at the door
Asian Box
Lamb MeatballsCoconut Curry, Summer Herbs, Asian Street Dust
Glass Noodle Salad, Pineapple, Golden Raisins, Tamarind Vinaigrette
I didn’t get to try anything from Asian Box, everything I walked by the booth they were out of food!
Ayara Thai Cuisine
Chicken Khao Soi
Thai Curry Noodles with Pickled Mustard Greens, Shallots, Fried Noodles. Coconut Cream Foam and Lime
The Chicken Khao Soi was one of the dishes that I tried early on, and it was definitely one of the best. The noodles were swimming in the sweet and savory curry sauce and topped off with a juicy, fall of the bone piece of chicken. The portion was big!
Badmaash
Chicken Biryani with Cilantro-Lime Whip with Paprika Masala
This rice was delicious and the presentation was so nice with the large stone grill. After the rice was plated the chef finished it with a healthy dollop of the whip and a dash of the paprika
Bling Bling Dumpling
Pork Belly Bao
Blue Ribbon
Spicy Tuna Handroll, Salmon Avocado Hand Roll and Spicy Crab Handroll
Blue Ribbon had one of the longest lines at the event. I opted for the spicy crab handroll which was delicious, very fresh!
Creme Caramel LA
Ube Upside Down Pie
The delicious creamy ube custard was topped with a delicious, super sugary graham cracker crumble crust
Fluff Ice
Chamango
I’m already a huge Fluff Ice fan, we ended our need with a bite of this mango fluff with spicy popping boba. The spice on top was reminiscent of spicy Mexican fruit. A perfect end to a delectable evening!
Hamasuku
Bara Chirashi
This was my event favorite. It was beautiful and the rice was dotted with salty, exploding balls of salmon roe, bites of tuna, snapper and egg
Katsuya
Truffle and Chive Chawanmushi
Another one of my top favorites! I was so excited to see chawanmushi on the menu and even more excited to see the presentation inside of the pretty painted little eggs. The chawanmushi included three layers: truffle, dashi tamago and light soy. It was super salty and had a chunky potato flavored layer along with the custard egg. I grabbed two, but I could’ve easily eaten five more
Hokkaido Scallop Sashimi
Also delicious, the super sweet bite of scallop was well paired with the sharply sweet Tomatillo ponzu sauce. Served in a spoon for easy eats!
Komodo
Vietnamese Chicken Liver Pate
I love me some liver pate and the richness of the pate was cut with the red pickled carrots topping the bruschetta
Hutchinson Cocktails & Grill
Nasi Goreng
I missed this booth! Wah
Little Sister
Braised Beef Shank Noodle
The meltingly soft braised beef was mixed with the tangy black vinegar on top of the chewy noodles. A nice crunch was added by the bean sprouts. Also available were a variety of spicy sauce toppings!
Open Blue
Cobia Crudo
I love when sushi is paired with unexpected toppings, the cobia was paired with crunchy Chiccarron skin. Nom nom nom
Palms Thai
Papaya Salad with Blue Raw Crab
The crab was delicious! It reminds me of the Korean banchan that I love so much. I haven’t had it paired with papaya salad before
Parks BBQ
Parks Galbi
Marinated korean BBQ with kimchi on top, had to have a piece of that!
Phorage
Szechuan Pork and Crab Wontons
I’ve been wanting to try Phorage for awhile, this was a perfect sweet bite of wonton filled with pork, crab and water chestnut
Seoul Sausage Company
Southern Korean Braised Bacon with Country Potato Salad
Starry Kitchen
Crispy Tofu Balls
I’ve been a fan of Starry Kitchen forever but I haven’t had a chance to try their crispy tofu balls. Pipping hot and light and fluffy, the center of the tofu balls were creamy and custardy.
The District by Hannah An
Open Faced Banh Mi
Topped with beef pate it was the perfect bite of banh mi. Super stingy though compared to the amount of food that everyone was giving out. This was less than a bite!
Garlic Noodles
Th District made up for the banh mi with the Garlic Noodles. It’s hard to mess up on garlic noodles but the crunchy topping was a delicious addition
Twenty Eight
Slow Braised Octopus
The Octopus portion was super generous topped with garlic aioli and a black bean chili glaze
The Cathay Pacific’s official Oriental Breeze drink had a delicious licorice flavor
I highly recommend this Bruce Cost Ginger Ale, comes in many fun flavors such as: Pomegranate with Hibiscus and Passion Fruit with Yellow Ginger to name a few

Great pics, at least some of them. Dunno about the hand roll, fluff ice, and some of the others though. LOL.
(Thanks for the photo credits. A lot of times people don’t do that.)
The khao soi was my favorite too! Just posted my recap of the event here: http://theoffalo.com/2015/08/luckyrice-feast-los-angeles-2015/
