Sun Basket Subscription Meals
I was excited to receive a gift box from Sun Basket to try out their subscription meals. I first heard about Sun Basket from one of my close friends. She was at first a very loyal customer of Blue Apron (which I tried and did not love) and now she was a regular subscriber to Sun Basket, which I saw her update with her cooked meals almost daily on her Instagram
Sun Basket works with the West Coast’s best farms, ranchers, and fishermen. As a certified organic service, they value sustainable farming practices, respect for the environment, and the humane treatment of animals.
What really stood out for me was that the service included a free UPS shipping label to return the box for recycling purposes. I’ve always wondered about all the waste generated via subscription box meals because of all the necessary packaging and this is a great solution Sun Basket!
In my adulthood I have grown to dislike cooked salmon, but its so healthy so I make a concentrated effort to add salmon to my diet. With Sun Basket, one of the dishes that I decided to try out was the Pan seared salmon with fennel, capers and olives
One thing that I really enjoy about subscription box meals is that I get to try out vegetables that I wouldn’t regularly incorporate into my meals. Here I am trying out Fennel.
I really enjoyed the sauce for this dish, it’s most reminiscent of more of a fancy restaurant when fish is served on top of generous amounts of sauce, almost like a soup.
I used one of the Sun basket’s original photos, better than mine!
I also tried out the Chicken salmoriglio with charred broccolini. Seared steak with porcini pan sauce and sautéed chard. As I have mentioned before, for these subscription meals, for a hearty appetite like mine and The Directors, we definitely need to cook up an extra side of either rice, potatoes, or salad to make it a complete meal. I recommend Sun Basket as a healthy but tasty subscription box service!
Here’s my version of the Chicken Salmoriglio with charred broccolini.
